Wayne Modest is Head of the Research Center for Material Culture at the National Museum of World Cultures and Professor of Material Culture and Critical Heritage Studies at the VU. Central to his work around material culture and ethnographic collections is the concern to understand how colonial histories have shaped the present.

Artist and Professor of Global Art Khadija von Zinnenburg Carroll will contribute a short video on her book project Botanical Drift. The book was inspired by artistic interventions in the royal botanical garden in London, and explores plant histories, species cultivation and destruction, and experimental ecology. She is, amongst others, editor of Third Text magazine and author of various articles that focus on the relationships between plants and power.
