The Rotterdam artist Weronika Zielinska conducted research into hospitality in the hotel industry at Hotel van Walsum. Artists Oblique International discuss the productivity of idleness and the work exercises they developed in collaboration with Marco Tieleman Coaching. Artist Kym Ward spent a month in Deloitte‘s Innovation department, giving expert advice to start-ups on knowledge sharing and creative commons. Journalist Koen Haegens (economy and philosophy, De Groene Amsterdammer) responds to the artists’ proposals and discusses the presumed gap between the individual and the market. How powerful are the markets, but more importantly, how much power do we own? Curators Jesse van Oosten and Michel van Dartel shall moderate the event. Afterwards, Wijkkeuken van Zuid will provide snacks. Fieldwork Friday is organised by curatorial trainee Anneroos Goosen.

Koen Haegens
Haegens is editor of De Groene Amsterdammer and writes on a variety of subjects from the financial systems and the changing labour market, to time wasting and the ‘casting generation’. His book, Neem de tijd (Taking Time), is a search for the roots of the new Netherlands’ hastiness. He is currently journalist-in-residence at the NIAS (Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies) in Wassenaar, working on a new book about the search for the alleged core of our economy: the equally ubiquitous and mysterious ‘markets’.

Oblique International
Oblique International was founded in 2013 as part of the project ’five & half Proposals to work & live in the current millennium’. This project presents lectures, screenings, events, workshops, and performances, in which different types of work are examined.

Weronika Zielinska
From her interest in hospitality and exchange, Zielinska founded the non-profit project space Upominki in Rotterdam in 2012. Through Upominki, she proposes alternatives for exchange and appreciation in the art world.

Kym Ward
In her current video work, Kym Ward explores the social effects and consequences of living with debt. Her video and performance projects have been shown in De Appel in Amsterdam, Stede Freund Gallery in Berlin, and during ‘Late at Tate’ at Tate Britain, London. In 2014, she will complete her residency at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.
