Indoor carnival parade by Marga Weimans

Due to extreme weather conditions, the Rotterdam Summer Carnival 2015 had to be cancelled. Instead of participating in the parade, fashion designer Marga Weimans presented her performance with dancers, models and a brass band indoors at TENT.

The performance marked the opening of the exhibition ‘On the Other Side of Reality‘, with a new monumental fashion installation by fashion designer Marga Weimans, which was inspired by the Caribbean festival. Fashion, art, and performance blend into an overall concept which is influenced by Weimans’ personal background and her notions on the city dweller as an ‘agent of change’. The dancers breathed life into a set of architectural headdresses, accompanied by the beat of a special soundtrack. The audience could also meet with the performers and witness a video shoot.

For this performance, Weimans collaborated with sound designer Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) and choreographer Amber Vineyard (House of Vineyard/HipHopHuis).
