The collaborative publication brings together personal and theoretical reflections on the constructive potential of contemporary fandom. It is written by young members of the Brazilian K-pop community, spanning experiences of occupying public space through collective dance practices, pop culture fandom as a space of identity formation and support, cultural appropriation in K-pop, K-pop as of soft power, and introductions to the theoretical framework of fandom.

Film screening ‘Worlds in Formation’ 2021
Besides the book presentation, there will be a film screening, ‘Worlds in Formation’ (2021) on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 May.
‘Worlds in Formation’ was filmed over weekends spending time with a community of young amateur dancers who rehearse KPOP (Korean Pop Music) dance in Brazil. In a political moment in Brazil which is deeply dangerous to be queer, female, black, poor, or trans, this community are consciously acting to build a space to exist in public, producing a high visibility presence for oppressed minorities.

This event takes place during De Kunstavond XL. All cultural institutions on the Witte de With quarter are open until 23:00h. Between 18:00-23:00, we all offer free entry for all our guests.
