Highlight: The living surface – Lisan Freijsen€ 28,00
Lizan Freijsen exhibited her work in TENT several years ago as part of the exhibition SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. Now, a beautiful book has been published and we proudly carry it on the shelves of our bookshop.
The Living Surface is an alternative biology book about ‘Urban Nature’: it researches traces of decay in the public space in large cities in the Netherlands as well as in Paris, Nantes and the salt swamps of Bretagne. The book focuses on slow processes, as observed in stains and decay in the public space and in production methods of the so-called hand tuft technique. Engineer and design critic Ed van Hinte, scientist Hanneke Gelderblom and Lizan Freijsen reflect on the point where design, art and science meet. Lizan Freijsen (1960) lives and works in Rotterdam. After working with painting, mixed media and public space, her practice has now evolved into photographic research, in which she mainly focuses on dried stains and our daily lives.
