To celebrate this notable anniversary, Stichting Henkes invited all previous winners to choose an artist to nominate for this year’s award. This results in an exhibition in which very different practices touch and complement each other. The works presented express an urgent desire for new narratives and a plurality of perspectives.

Thematically, major issues intersect with intimate observations. While some works call for a moment of silence and vulnerability, others find meaning in interaction. Beyond that, all of the nominees aim to open a conversation around the question: what voices, sounds and feelings exist in the world, and how are they subject to change?

The jury consisted of writer/curator Hanne Hagenaars, writer/curator Yasmijn Jarram and artist Toon Teeken.

About the Dolf Henkes Prize
Rotterdam artist Dolf Henkes (1903-1989) used his work to tell stories about the world around him. He painted the harbor, his fellow people on Katendrecht, the horrors of World War II and the bright landscapes of Curaçao where he sought refuge after that dark period.
