Rotterdam 2040‘ is not a factual documentary but a film in which La Rivière (Rotterdam, 1976) presents his personal view on the development of Rotterdam, from the bombardment of the second world war until now, 100 years after the bombing and the city’s 700th anniversary.

La Rivière advocates for an explosive growth of residents in Rotterdam, showing that large parts of Rotterdam were not only destroyed by the German bombardment but through the hands of its guardians, and he puts the city’s old utopian ideas under the microscope. With archive material, new images, and La Rivière himself as the narrator, he knows that after 95 minutes everyone will fall in love with his favorite city.
