TENT Welcomes: ‘An Invitation to Dance’

Exhbition

A film installation made by film-maker Noud Heerkens and choreographer Loïc Perela.

The work, presented as part of the Dansateliers’ 25th anniversary, results from an investigation into the cinematic experience of dance. In a converted dance arena at TENT, this work combines dance, cinema, and technology, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the world of dancers on the canvas. Martine Dekker, director of CINEDANS, opens the installation.

The installation ‘An Invitation to DANCE’ has no environment, no notion of time. There are five bodies, five individuals amplified through the beat of the music, all caught in the same endlessly repeating impulse. They can’t stop dancing. The generic installation constantly changes due to its underlying software. ‘It’s a form of mental interaction’, says filmmaker Heerkens, whose research into the relationship between physicality and experience began in 2015.

From 15:00 to17:00 on Sunday 23 June 2019, Heerkens and Perela will present their three-year collaboration during a finissage in the installation.

An Invitation to DANCE is part of the Dansateliers’ 25th anniversary. On June 7 and 8, Dansateliers concludes its anniversary year with the event 25 Years Dansateliers: Celebrating Movement, including dance works by choreographer Loïc Perela.
