The rise of internet streaming, internet radio, and podcasts means (audio) content is accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Does being present give an added value to the experience of a performance? What remains of a performance when it is captured and experienced as a recording?

Radio Performances
Radio Calling kicked off with DJ Ben Penn (Red Light Radio) playing funk, jazz, and soul. Floris Visser broadcast his Radio Voicemail project. Performance artist Jasper Griepink gave a radio meditation session. For his performance, ‘The Whale’s Ear’, Timmy van Zoelen made a live connection to the print room of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Daan Samson reported live from the Alaçatı on the Turkish Riviera about his Corendon sponsored holiday. Artists selected from the Open Call – Toon Fibbe, Max Dovey, Cecilia Vallejos and Georg Bohle – presented the performances developed for Radio Calling.

London artist duo Beech & Thomasson broadcast their live performance at TENT to Camden Arts Centre, whilde the audience at TENT made a live connection with Camden Arts Centre in London for Camilla Wills and Jane Fawcett‘s performance.

Reflections
Philip Auslander
(US, Georgia Institute of Technology) gave a keynote Lecture via Skype on the relationship between live performance and online digital space.
The programme concluded with a panel discussion led by TENT curator Jesse van Oosten, with the artists and Capucine Perrot, curator at Tate Modern.

The first episode of Radio Calling took place in December 2013.
