In her debut exhibition, Janneke van der Putten presented a constellation of works in which she explores the relationships between sound, voice and song, body, time and space based on her personal experiences, physicality and voice.
The long walks, hikes and listening studies that Janneke Van der Putten (Amsterdam, 1985) carries out form an important starting point. In this, she uses her voice as an instrument to indicate or explore a certain situation or space, and in doing so to make the often hidden characteristics of an environment tangible. The rhythm of nature and the transitions of day and night are leading in this.
Psychogeography
The exhibition opened on the day of the new moon and closed on the day of the full moon. Van der Putten practices a form of psychogeography, as it were. She establishes relationships between herself and an external reality, such as a cemetery in Rotterdam, the island of Vassivière, the urban environment of Lima or the desert coast of Peru, and in direct relation to, for example, bird sounds, gunshots and echoes.
