Utopian Rotterdam

The Utopian Rotterdam guided tour by OMI (Office for Metropolitan Information) takes place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June and explores various designs for the utopian urban planning of pre- and post-war Rotterdam. Led by an enthusiastic guide from UrbanGuides, the tour starts at OMI and visits several of the city’s realised and unrealised projects. Rotterdam has always been a place with progressive ambitions. Long before the centre was bombarded, a major restructuring began to give Rotterdam a fresh and modern character. After the bombardment, there was suddenly room for innovation. The seemingly endless amount of ideas ranged from the very conservative to the entirely utopian. The tour concludes at TENT with the exhibition Utopian Dreams curated by Reyn van der Lugt, which features ten historical and contemporary future fantasies for Rotterdam.
