TENT & Alida Dors participate in Rotterdam Summer Carnival

On Saturday 29 July, TENT participates in Rotterdam’s renowned Summer Carnival for the third time. For this edition, choreographer Alida Dors creates a parade inspired by the role of dance in Afro-Caribbean funeral processions. The parade, with over thirty dancers, connects the political power of hip hop to the Caribbean carnival as a moment for reliving and reinventing cultural traditions.

For this project, Dors works with dancers from three hip hop houses in the Netherlands: Solid Ground Movement, Haags Hiphop Centrum, en Urban House Groningen. Hip hop DJ Lovesupreme has developed a composition especially for the parade, mixing hip hop with live music by a traditional Surinam brass band Boven de Sterren koraalmuziek. Stylist Isis Vaandrager dresses the dancers, and artists Laser 3.14 and Brian Elstak design texts and drawings for the carnival float.
