Masterclass Art Mediation: Sepake Angiama & Clare Butcher

TENT, Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, and MAMA are organizing a series of professional development workshops for art teachers, art mediators and educators working within the field of arts and culture. In line with 100% Contemporary, the collaborative art education program for secondary education, these events will focus on sharing knowledge of mediating contemporary art in both the classroom as in an exhibition setting. For each session an (inter)national guest working in the field of art mediation, is invited to give a public lecture/workshop on a certain topic connected to current debates of art mediation and contemporary art.

For the second edition of the 100% Masterclass series Sepake Angiama and Clare Butcher will introduce the project Laufmappe, which was part of the education program of documenta 14. A “Laufmappe” is the name given to a working folder which usually circulates through an office or system, added to, edited, and reorganised as a process develops. Literally the word can be broken down into “walking file” which proved an enticing term for aneducation documenta 14, as we strolled and listened and attempted to embody Learning from Athens. During this workshop, we invite you to walk together through aneducation’s Laufmappe – a resource for teachers departing from the many works, practices, methods and politics within documenta 14. Thinking collectively about the necessary formats for and questions around how artworks, artists and exhibitions connect with students and classrooms, we hope to open up and test out what a walking file might become – a working curriculum?
