Digital Collage, Gayatri Kodikal, 2013.

In this installation, the archaeological unearthing of the remains of seventeenth century Georgian queen Ketevan in the mangrove forests of Goa becomes a doorway into a labyrinth of histories and narratives. In her lecture-performance ‘Have I Become Her Stories?’ Gayatri journeys through a haunting dream of the martyred queen, exploring both the meta-narrative implicit to the game, and its many forking paths and speculative perspectives.

The artist herself seems to have become part of this narrative, as the lecture bends into storytelling, sharing anecdotes of game-making as an ongoing practice, a serendipitous friendship with a theologian/science fiction writer, and a plethora of stories about obsession and haunting.
