It builds upon Wu’s body of work, which engages with encoded forms of message transmission and fashion as instruments to carry and disseminate meaning. An “embodied publication”, the work is a meditation on the politics of visibility and invisibility, transparency and opacity, translation and the refusal to translate.

During the event the collaborators will reflect on the making of the work and their perspectives on the subject of code-switching. Furthermore they will discuss their individual contributions to the piece and their practices. The event will include a performative reading of the garment by Sarafina Paulina Bonita.

This event takes place in the framework of our current exhibition To Be Like Water, curated by Kris Dittel.

Speakers: Amy Suo Wu, Sami Hammana, Karen Huang, Sarafina Paulina Bonita, and Sandim Mendes.
