Galapremière Rotterdam 2040
On Thursday 16 May, TENT presents the première of Rotterdam 2040, a new video work by artist Gyz La Rivière, in the former Lantaren/Venster building at Gouvernestraat 133. Starting out from the idea "You can’t go forward without looking back", Rotterdam 2040 is a film about the future of Rotterdam and its eventful history. At breakneck speed La Rivière reconstructs in his own associative way the development of Rotterdam from the bombardment of the second world war until now, and ends with a speculative look at Rotterdam in 2040, 100 years after the bombing and the city’s 700th anniversary. The evening will be opened by an interview with Gyz La Rivière and will be closed with an afterparty by the Rotterdam DJs DANDY DAVE & Roccalberti. The video will be on view at TENT from May 18th until June 9th.
Rotterdam 2040
Rotterdam 2040 is not a factual documentary filled with talking heads, but a film in which La Rivière presents his personal view on the development of Rotterdam, its mistakes, struggles, and glory. Although dealing with the city’s architecture and urban renewal, Rotterdam 2040 is a film about subjective experiences of the city as told through its (future) residents. Rotterdam 2040 is the second chapter of La Rivière’s lengthy investigation into Rotterdam’s history. The research for the film resulted in the book Rotterdam 2040, which was published in 2010.
