100% Contemporary is an educational alliance of Showroom MaMA, TENT and Kunstinstituut Melly, which can be found in the centre of Rotterdam, a stone's throw from each other. During 100% Contemporary, pupils are introduced to contemporary art in the broadest sense of the word.
Teachers can put together their own program and choose from the various exhibitions and/or workshops. In the workshop, students investigate what type of artist they would be, and then work individually or collectively on a visual work. Visit the website of 100% Contemporary.
'Being contemporary' means living in the here and now, but also: dreaming about the future and learning from the past. Contemporary art is the art of today made by living artists. In contrast to classical and modernist art, contemporary art often reflects on current social, political and economic issues. Contemporary art is shown at art fairs and in a worldwide network of art institutions, of which our three institutions are part. During 100% Contemporary, students are invited to view and respond to our exhibitions. The emphasis is on discussing, reflecting and forming your own opinion about the role of art in society.
