Wednesday evening June 11th, TENT will host the Rotterdam premiere of the film Julia/Giuliana by Manon Bovenkerk. Rotterdam-based artist Manon Bovenkerk makes drawings and videos on the brink of illustration, comic strip, film and animation. Her films often explore the relationship between still drawing and moving picture. In the film Julia/Giuliana, the story is told through film stills: photography of modernist architecture is alternated with charcoal drawings. The film is an animated honour to the actress Monica Vitti and the Italian cinema of the 1960s.
The evening opens with a brief retrospective of short films made by Manon Bovenkerk in recent years. Mariette Dölle, programme director of TENT will interview Bovenkerk, followed by a performance by filmmaker and writer Albert Wulffers. The evening concludes with an acoustic performance by the country noir band John Dear Mowing Club.
