An Evening with Anne Wenzel

Sweet Life is title of the new catalogue by Rotterdam-based sculptor Anne Wenzel. The book’s title is derived from the installation Wenzel made in TENT in 2005. The piece marked the start of a new phase in her work, the transition from sculpture to complex installations. The pieces function as cinematographic settings in which black ceramic objects form a silent tableau, as the remnants of a dramatic event.

In the past two years Anne Wenzel has had (solo) exhibitions in SM Den Bosch and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, and in 2007 she was longlisted for the Prix de Rome. The catalogue Sweet Life is presented during this evening with Anne Wenzel.

Art critic and writer Hans den Hartog Jager will be in conversation with Anne Wenzel, filmmaker Fred Ernst will make a video portrait of the artist. Writer Sanneke van Hassel will read from her much-praised collection of stories IJsregen (Ice Rain) and artist Kim Zieschang will serve Kitsch Royal, black and pink snacks and drinks. The evening will be concluded with an energetic performance by punk rock band JC Thomaz and the Missing Slippers.
