An evening with Daan Botlek & Rory Pilgrim

As part of the 2016 Dolf Henkes Award, TENT presents on Thursday 19 January an event for the public to get further acquainted with the artistic practices of Daan Botlek and Rory Pilgrim. Together with Rana Hamadeh and Katarina Zdjelar they are nominated for the Dolf Henkes Award 2016.

Rory Pilgrim makes films, performances, and text posters. This evening he shows two films from the Sacred Repositories cycle – N.1: VIOLENTLY SPEAKING and N.3: THE OPEN SKY. The film N.2: AFFECTION IS THE BEST PROTECTION is currently showing at TENT. Via a video message from his temporary residence in Japan, Pilgrim discusses the radical potential of words and music in his work, the importance of safe social spaces for specific social groups, and ‘real’ human contact in the digital age.

Daan Botlek makes drawings, murals, and illustrations. A large part of his practice takes place in the streetscape or vacant properties. It is exceptional that he makes a work for TENT, a conventional exhibition space, yet he approaches this space like any of the other environments in which he works. Together with fellow artists Pim Palsgraaf and Willem Besselink, he talks about the project If Paradise Is Half As Nice, a series of collective work periods and exhibitions in abandoned industrial buildings.
