Writer Ernest van der Kwast delivers a column live from Italy and the inspirational essay by Gyz La Rivière will inaugurate a series of such essays.

On Thursday 21 April the focus is on Wim van Krimpen’s view. Van Krimpen has a long record of service in the Dutch art world: he initiated the KunstRAI, was the inaugural director of Kunsthal Rotterdam, is former director of the Gemeente-museum Den Haag and is currently an independent cultural entrepreneur. In a recent article in the Groene Amsterdammer he was critical of the cultural activities on offer in Rotterdam. How does this ’paterfamilias’ of the Rotterdam art scene view the future of the arts in Rotterdam? In a wide-ranging interview with director and documentary-maker Victor Vroegindeweij, questions are raised such as ’Does the future look bleak for Rotterdam? In what should the city invest and what should it leave behind?’
